Preventing onward HIV transmission in routine HIV care: low levels of evaluation of risk behaviour in HIV-infected patients

High-risk sexual behaviour among HIV-infected individuals aware of their diagnosis is of ongoing concern for onward HIV transmission1 2 with approximately one-third of HIV-infected men who have sex with men (MSM) reporting unsafe sex.1 Those attending HIV services represent a readily accessible group for secondary HIV prevention. British HIV Association (BHIVA) guidelines recommend a sexual history review at HIV diagnosis and at 6-month intervals thereafter.3
