Early-life trauma, negative and positive life events, compulsive sexual behavior disorder and risky sexual action tendencies among young women with substance use disorder
2022, Addictive BehaviorsCitation Excerpt :On the one hand, women with SUDs are less likely to endorse externalizing disorders such as conduct disorder and antisocial personality disorder (Conway et al., 2006, Khan et al., 2013), and so it might be less likely for them to exhibit risky sexual behavior. On the other hand, research has indicated that substance use (illicit and licit) is linked with riskier sexual behavior among women (e.g., Mezzich et al., 1997). Because risky sexual behavior may stem from an effort to feel powerful, needed, and in control (Ferree, 2001), and may provide a temporary relief from aversive experiences such as shame (Dhuffar & Griffiths, 2014; Reid et al., 2009; Sassover et al., 2021), our first prediction is that women with SUDs (as compared with their healthy counterparts) would endorse higher levels of compulsive sexual behavior disorder, which, in turn, would also be manifested in riskier sexual behavior.
Design and methodology for an integrative data analysis of coping power: Direct and indirect effects on adolescent suicidality
2022, Contemporary Clinical TrialsCitation Excerpt :Previous studies report internal consistency values of 0.78 [32]; note that, under IDA, traditional measures of internal consistency are replaced with “local” reliability estimates, as internal consistency varies across the range of the latent variable in IRT/MNLFA scoring [33,34]. The emotion dysregulation subscale of the self-report Abbreviated Dysregulation Inventory [35] consists of 10 items that measure poorly regulated emotional behavior (e.g., “I have trouble controlling my temper”). Items are rated on a 4-point scale (0 = “never true” to 3 = “always true”), with internal consistencies in the literature at or around 0.80.
