Modern day influences on sexual behavior

Infect Dis Clin North Am. 2005 Jun;19(2):297-309. doi: 10.1016/j.idc.2005.03.010.

Abstract

To better understand temporal trends in sexual behavior and their determinants, it is important to look at the demographic and technologic context in which we live; both affect sexual behaviors. Mental disorders and CSA emerge as important correlates of high-risk sexual behaviors. The changing role and expectations of women-the result of major economic and social transformation-transform society further through changes to family and community structures. These changes occur alongside increasing inequality and upheavals in the world, all of which are more visible through increased mobility and communication in the "global village." Changes in sexual norms, relationships, abuse, and mental health are better understood in the context of this broad political background.
