BASHH/FRSH standards are used by commissioners/CCGs and National Health Service (NHS) England to commission Sexual and Reproductive Health services in England and inform commissioning decisions in the devolved nations. The FRSH/BASHH Standards for Online and Remote Providers of Sexual and Reproductive Health Services were published on 25 January 2019.
In response to increasing demand, resource limitation and a willingness of the public to engage with e-health we have in recent years seen the development of online and remote health services across many areas of the NHS. Most Sexual Health/Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare (SH/SRH) services already have an online presence advertising their location, which serves to signpost clinics as well as offering online clinical information. In addition, many services have developed limited postal testing services to complement traditional face-to-face consultations. These services are set to grow and a number of innovative providers are already supplying a much wider range of online clinical SH/SRH care using a range of consultation methods from real-time interactive healthcare via a video link to web-based questionnaires.
