In a recent article, Latini et al 1 described a decline in reported cases of STIs, particularly syphilis, during the spring 2020 lockdown in Rome. Similarly, in Madrid, the number of diagnosed STIs decreased during the first semester of 2020 compared with the same period of 2019.2 The authors suggested that a possible driver for the reduction could be COVID-19 related social distancing interventions.
