Lymph node biopsy showed both Kaposi’s sarcoma and multicentric Castleman’s disease. Despite antiretroviral therapy and chemotherapy the patient deteriorated, developing confusion and dysphasia. A cranial magnetic resonance scan showed central pontine myelinolysis. Despite supportive therapy the patient died.
