  • Association was determined by comparing microscopic examination of polymorphic mononuclear leucocytes per high-powered field (PMNLs/HPF) in urethral smears in turn with microorganisms found in the first void urine (FVU) (Mycoplasma genitalium, n = 187; Chlamydia trachomatis, n = 638; no organism, n = 6603); microorganisms found in the cervix (M genitalium, n = 260; C trachomatis, n = 653; no organism, n = 6525) or microorganisms found in either the FVU or cervical swab specimens (M genitalium, n = 304; C trachomatis, n = 726; no organism, n = 6574). Patients positive for both M genitalium and C trachomatis (n = 42) have been excluded from the calculation.
