  • Association was determined by comparing microscopic examination of polymorphic mononuclear leucocytes per high-powered field (PMNLs/HPF) in cervical smears in turn with microorganisms found in the first void urine (FVU) (M genitalium, n = 178; C trachomatis, n = 625; no organism, n = 6456), microorganisms found in the cervix (M genitalium, n = 252; C trachomatis, n = 644; no organism, n = 6398) or microorganisms found in either the FVU or cervical swab specimen (M genitalium, n = 293; C trachomatis, n = 712; no organism, n = 6425). Patients positive for both M genitalium and C trachomatis (n = 42) have been excluded from the calculation.
