Association of malodour with microorganism infection was determined by comparing whiff test of a potassium hydroxide smear in turn with microorganisms found in the first void urine (FVU) (M genitalium, n = 155; C trachomatis, n = 541; no organism, n = 5849), microorganisms found in the cervix (M genitalium, n = 216; C trachomatis, n = 564; no organism, n = 5787) or microorganisms found in either the FVU or cervical swabs (M genitalium, n = 621; C trachomatis, n = 590; no organism, n = 5826). Patients positive for both M genitalium and C trachomatis (n = 42) have been excluded from the calculation.
