Age-related bone diseases: Role of inflammaging
2024, Journal of AutoimmunityExploring genetic and immune underpinnings of the sexual dimorphism in tumor response to immune checkpoints inhibitors: A narrative review
2023, Current Research in Pharmacology and Drug DiscoveryCitation Excerpt :However, the effects of female hormones are context-dependent as, mainly after menopause, estrogen stimulates NK cell mediated responses (Giglio et al., 1994). Similarly, the decreased NK cytotoxic activity observed during pregnancy (van Nieuwenhoven, et al. 2003) disappears after menopause (Giglio et al., 1994). While estrogens are associated with enhanced immune reactivity, testosterone has been widely ascribed as immunosuppressive (Foo et al., 2017).
Menopause is an inflection point of age-related immune changes in women
2021, Journal of Reproductive ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :Given a trend of decreasing NK cell proportion with age in postmenopausal women shown in Fig. 1A, in decades after menopause NK cell proportion might fall more than our observation, which may contribute to compromised immunity in the elderly. The proportion of T cells decreased with age in total population and was also decreased in postmenopausal women compared with that in young women (Fig. 1B and Table 2), which was consistent with a previous study (Giglio et al., 1994). Their report showed a lower number of B cells in postmenopausal women than in reproductive-age women, but we did not find a remarkable change (Fig. 1C and Table 2).
