2022, Transplant ImmunologyCitation Excerpt :In contrast to other herpesviruses, HHV-8 is not ubiquitous with different prevalences in various geographic regions and sub-populations [182]. HHV-8 is a causative agent of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS), and lymphoproliferative diseases: primary effusion lymphoma (PEL), and multicentric Castleman's disease (MCD) among immunosuppressed or immunocompromised patients after SOT [183–185]. The antiviral therapy including VGC, foscarnet, and cidofovir inhibited in vitro HHV-8 replication, but only VGC has been tested in clinical trial with the inhibition of HHV-8 replication [186,187].
