Abstract

PIP: The Distinguished Lecturers Symposium and Guest Lectures on Contraception in Egypt were organized to provide family planning service providers, program managers, and policymakers with current information about contraceptive technology through lectures addressed by international and local family planning experts. The Distinguished Lecturers Symposium was held on the premises of the National Population Council in Cairo during October 8-9, 1992, while two regional half-day Guest Lectures were conducted at the governorate level in Gharbia on October 11, 1992, and in Menia on October 12, 1992. The evaluation of the symposium and guest lectures was very positive, with most participants finding that conducting similar symposia can be either extremely or quite effective in improving the practices of family planning service providers in Egypt. The symposium successfully incorporated both the participants' and speakers' ideas through lively and informative discussions taking place after each lecture. More frequent similar meetings are needed to increase knowledge on different topics.
